“New Year, New You?” But wait… what was wrong with the old you?
Every New Year brings with it a wave of challenges—dry January, deep cleanses, new workout programs, you name it. I even created a 30-Day Reset Challenge (more on that later). Most of us dive into these resolutions with the idea that we need to change because something wasn’t good enough about us before.
But I’d like to challenge that thought. What was so bad about “old” you? Sure, we all have habits we’d like to improve (I’ll share mine below), but this notion that we need to “shed” something to become a newer, better version of ourselves misses the point.
Here’s your challenge: What do you love about yourself right now? What parts of you are worth celebrating and taking into the future? Let’s focus on building a new trajectory for ourselves that honors where we’ve been and embraces where we want to go.
Challenge is definitely the right word here! After trials, testing, and plenty of tech hiccups, I’m not quite ready to release the challenge just yet. Rather than rush through it, I’m delaying the start until I make sure your experience is smooth and frustration-free.
It’s frustrating for me to pause, but it’s the right decision—and I hope you’ll join me in when I roll it out for a fresh start!
My Why Evolved:
When my business coach asked me about my “why,” I reflected on what brought me to Pilates in the first place. It started with a continuing education course for my physical therapy license. That led me to taking Pilates classes, and I fell in love with the movement and the sense of control it gave me over my body.
But it’s also personal. My mom (who reads this newsletter—hi, Mom!) has lost height over time due to postural changes, including the development of a dowager’s hump. I’m determined to avoid the same fate for my spine. What I’ve learned is that the time to start is now. Postural changes happen slowly over time, but the good news is you can reverse them with consistent effort.
Pilates is my vehicle for building strength, improving posture, and staying active. And I’m here to help you on that journey.
What Pilates Can Do For You
Pilates offers more than better posture. It strengthens your core, improves balance, and supports your entire body so you can move with confidence—whether that’s on the pickleball court, traveling the world, or playing with your grandkids.
In every session, we focus on strength, balance, and posture—essentials for thriving as you age. Pilates isn’t just an exercise method; it’s a gateway to feeling strong, capable, and ready to take on life’s adventures.
As I enter the New Year, I’m letting go of something that’s controlled me for too long: numbers. Whether it’s the number on the scale, calories eaten, or minutes exercised, I’ve realized that obsessing over these numbers has been an illusion of control that ends up controlling me.
This year, I’m focusing on how I feel. I’m stepping on the scale only once a month, ditching the food scale, and letting go of rigid tracking. Instead, I’m embracing presence and connection to my body.
I invite you to reflect on what you might let go of this year. What could you release to create more freedom and joy in your life?
Here’s to a happy, healthy New Year—one filled with growth, strength, and self-love.
